Today the Year 5, 6 and 7s welcomed Corporeal McNicholl from the Irish Army to St.Brigid's. The visit was based on the theme of "School Home Guard in World War 2", with pupils enlisted as recruits to help the War effort. As a group pupils learnt some foot drill, learnt about a typical ration allowance, air raid precautions and looked at typical weapons and ordnance used during the war. There was also the opportunity to throw a deactivated British grenade or replica German grenade . We had lots of opportunities for hands on experiences with some of the artefacts, which included medals, helmets, deactivated weapons and Home Front material. Corporeal McNicholl was able to explain the war through these items. We had a fun filled morning and learnt lots about our current World Around Us Topic.
